Anime Expeditions: Complete Units Master Guide & Meta Roster
Welcome to the ultimate Units Database for Anime Expeditions! This page breaks down every single unit, how they actually play in-game, and how to avoid wasting your Trait Crystals.
π΄ S-Tier Units (The Meta Kings)
These are the absolute strongest units right now. If you pull one, focus all your resources here! You can also check the top-ranked characters in our Anime Expeditions Tier List. Always prioritize upgrading these first!
8th Sword (Berserk)
- Role
- Physical Main Carry / Boss Destroyer
- How to Get
- Spirit City Raid 1 drop (1% chance, 35-run pity).
- Why He's Meta
- Every time he kills a mob, his attack stat goes up permanently for the rest of the match.
- Common Mistake
- Placing him down too late (like Wave 15+). If he comes down late, he won't get enough kills to stack his attack power high enough for the final boss.
- Pro Strategy
- Always place him down early (Wave 2 or 3) near the front of the track so he steals early kills and stacks his damage sky-high.
- Best Build
- Unbound or Strength II Trait + Three Swords From Hell Gear.
Shadow (Divine)
- Role
- Magical Main Carry / Full-Screen CC
- How to Get
- Secret drop from Standard Summon Banner (0.1%).
- Why He's Meta
- Deals big magic damage and pushes mobs backwards on the track while stunning them.
- Common Mistake
- Placing him right next to your base entrance. Pushing mobs back right at the end line causes big clusters that can leak fast enemies.
- Pro Strategy
- Place him near sharp turns or track intersections so he pushes enemies back into your other damage units.
- Best Build
- Unbound Trait + Magic Book Gear.
Megumi (Secret)
- Role
- Magical Summoner / Field Boss Cleaner
- How to Get
- Secret drop from Standard Summon Banner (0.1%).
- Why He's Meta
- Summons Maharaga, who roams the whole map and teleports to enemies to deal huge melee AoE damage.
- Common Mistake
- Maharaga has a small delay when teleporting between far-apart enemies, letting fast mobs run past.
- Pro Strategy
- Put a slow or freeze unit (like Salmon Sorcerer) nearby to hold enemies in place while Maharaga resets his attack.
- Best Build
- Unbound Trait + Magic Book Gear.
Puppet (Gofer)
- Role
- Support / Crowd Control / Debuffer
- How to Get
- Summon Banner / Beginner Path Objectives.
- Why He's Meta
- Slows enemies, pushes them back, and marks them so they take extra damage from your main carries.
- Common Mistake
- Expecting him to clear waves alone. He is a buffer/debuffer, not a solo killer.
- Pro Strategy
- Place him inside the attack range of your 8th Sword or Shadow so your main carries deal double damage to marked mobs.
- Best Build
- Unbound or Swiftness Trait.
π A-Tier Units (High-Tier Carries & Synergies)
Super solid units that clear almost everything when built with the right team.
Cursed Student (True Love / Yuta)
- Role
- Physical Burst DPS / Boss Finisher
- Why He's Good
- Deals extreme single-target burst damage during Raid Boss fights.
- Pro Strategy
- In Boss Raids, swap out your extra money farmer for Yuta on Wave 10+ for crazy boss damage.
Elf Mage (Unleashed)
- Role
- Magical AoE Wave Cleaner
- Why She's Good
- Massive attack circle that deals constant magic burn damage to packed groups of enemies.
- Pro Strategy
- Always place her next to Forbidden Teacher (Gojo) to boost her magic damage output by 30%.
Lady Giant (Envy)
- Role
- Physical Heavy CC / Ground Stunner
- Why She's Good
- Slams the ground to stun entire waves of heavy enemies and mini-bosses.
- Pro Strategy
- Put her at track intersections where two paths meet to maximize her slam radius.
Toy Maker
- Role
- Specialized Expedition Mode Carry
- Special Rule
- She feels average normally, but if you roll the Unbound trait on her, her summon stats skyrocket, making her an S-Tier carry in Expedition Mode!
Soul Reaper (Released)
- Role
- Single-Target Physical DPS
- Why He's Good
- High base attack stats, perfect for taking down beefy mini-bosses in mid-game story stages.
String Demon (Awakened)
- Role
- Crowd Control / Slow Barrier
- Why He's Good
- Traps fast-moving units in string webs, cutting their movement speed by half.
Crimson (Brother)
- Role
- Bleed DoT (Damage over Time)
- Why He's Good
- Applies a heavy Bleed status that steadily chips away at high-HP targets.
Flame Emperor (Reincarnated) & Hollow (Blaze)
- Role
- Fire AoE Wave Cleavers
- Why They're Good
- Great for clearing medium-difficulty story waves with non-stop burn damage ticks.
π‘ B-Tier Units (Mid-Game & Story Carries)
Good for early story progression, but you will swap them out later for Endgame Raids.
- True Saint (Holy) Free starter carry from the Release Event. Pro Tip: Use her to clear Chapters 1 and 2, but do not waste Trait Rerolls on her! Save your rerolls for Mythic cards.
- Greed Good AoE range for clearing early packed story mobs.
- Scissor Shreds armor on heavy story enemies.
- Reishi Archer Cheap long-range sniper unit for early wave defense.
- Corps Captain Cheap single-target Epic unit.
- Bounty Hunter Very cheap deployment cost for Wave 1 defense.
π’ C-Tier Units (Early Game Fillers β DO NOT INVEST!)
Player Warning: Do NOT spend Trait Crystals, Equipment Rerolls, or Materials on these units! Use them only on your first day playing, then swap them out.
- Nen Hunter (Gon)
- Demon Cyborg (Genos)
- Kid Assassin (Killua)
- Rubber Boy (Luffy)
- Thunder Shinobi
- Carrot
- Curly Brow (Sanji)
π’ Farm Tier (Money Makers β MANDATORY!)
You CANNOT clear hard stages without at least one money unit in your 6-unit squad!
Ramen Guy (S-Tier Farm)
- Why He's Essential
- Gives you big Yen generation every wave and per kill.
- Trait Tip
- Reroll his trait until you get Investor (+Yen multiplier). This gives you the cash needed to max out your S-Tier carries before Wave 10.
Stone Alchemist (A-Tier Farm)
- Why He's Good
- Secondary income provider.
- Pro Strategy
- Run him alongside Ramen Guy in long 30+ Wave Expedition runs so you never run out of upgrade cash.
π£ Support Tier (Buffers & Crowd Control)
These units don't deal high solo damage, but they make your main carries 2x-3x stronger!
Forbidden Teacher (Gojo)
- Role
- Magic DPS Buffer
- Pro Strategy
- Increases Magic DPS for nearby units. Place his buff circle touching Megumi, Shadow, or Elf Mage.
The Hero
- Role
- Physical DPS Buffer
- Pro Strategy
- Increases Physical DPS for nearby units. Place his buff circle touching 8th Sword (Berserk) or Yuta.
Salmon Sorcerer (Grade 1)
- Role
- S-Tier Stun / Freeze Support
- Pro Strategy
- Freezes and staggers fast-running mobs. Essential for stopping fast enemies from leaking past your base!
π Water Princess, βοΈ Ice Queen & π§ Ice Mage
- Role
- Freeze / Slow Utilities
- Pro Strategy
- Budget freeze options for early/mid-game if you haven't pulled Salmon Sorcerer yet.
Units FAQ
Q1 Does a unit's attack speed (SPA) get faster when you upgrade them?
A: Yes, it gets way faster! Most S-Tier units start with slow attacks, but upgrading them in-game lowers their attack delay so they hit much quicker.
Q2 Is a team full of 6 S-Tier damage units the strongest setup?
A: No, full damage teams will lose quickly! You need 2 Money Farmers (like Ramen Guy) and a support unit, or you won't have enough cash to max out your carries before the boss wave.
Q3 Why does my S-Tier unit feel weak in battle?
A: You're probably missing the right Trait and Gear! Getting the Unbound trait or equipping items like the Magic Book can instantly double or triple your unit's damage.
